Is your baby waking up at night due to hunger? Do you need to feed them in the middle of the night? One of the factors to consider is the child's age.
If your child is 3 months old, their stomach is still small, and it's very likely they wake up at night because they're hungry.
If your child is 12 months old, and they know how to fall asleep on their own without external soothing, waking up in the early morning might be due to hunger.
However, if your child is already 18 months old, eats well during the day, they shouldn't wake up at night due to hunger.
If a child relies on a bottle, nursing, or external soothing to fall asleep, we won't actually know if they wake up at night because they don't know how to self-soothe and go back to sleep after a nighttime sleep cycle or if they are genuinely hungry.
Here's another example: If my husband makes instant noodles at 1 a.m., and I get up to eat. If this happens for three consecutive nights, and I also get up to eat for three consecutive nights, on the fourth night, even if he doesn't cook, I might still wake up because I've gotten used to eating at 1 a.m.
So, if you're accustomed to feeding your baby in the wee hours for an extended period, you might be teaching them to expect a feeding at that time rather than because they're genuinely hungry.
#So the most important thing is learning to self-soothe.
